The Movement of God: It Seemed Good to the Holy Spirit and to us (Acts 15: 1-34)
Beth Coppenhall preaches about discernment, using Acts 15 to show how early Christians listened to God's voice.
She argues that each one of us, each and every single one of us, if we have accepted salvation in Christ and received the Holy Spirit - we can hear God. Beth encourages us to worship and pray and not overthink hearing God's voice. It's about becoming so familiar with God that we just know when something contradicts what He would say. Persist in your time spent getting to know God.
Beth also asks us to check our hearts: Are we unable to hear God because we have been striving for Him? Are we trying to earn our relationship with Him, rather than just enjoying it?
She then rounds up by reminding us that when we come together as a church, we all have a responsibility in discerning God's voice. From the loudest, to the quietest. It is important to us as a body that we each listen to what God is saying. Beth challenges us to pray before and after church services and ask God "Is there anything you are saying to us?"
Beth then talks about what we can do if we are really stuck, when it comes to hearing God's voice: Look for fruit and have faith that you can hear.
