The Movement of God: You Know How I Lived (Acts 20: 1 - 28)

Elaine talks us through Acts 20. She focuses on 4 things:

  1. Pauls companions. Elaine notes that new Christ-followers are travelling with Paul, and she comments that Paul is no doubt using this as an opportunity for teaching.

  2. Teaching the word of God is important. Elaine comments that we have to be a church that clearly proclaims the word of God. Some people will not know where to begin when they are given the Bible.

  3. It is all about Jesus. Paul says goodbye to the Ephesians and this is his main point in his farewell: If you don't know Jesus, it is all about Him.

  4. How to say Goodbye. Elaine talks about how Paul says goodbye to the Ephesians. He loves them so much and his parting words are profound. Sometimes it is tough to say goodbye.

Paul shares a few things that he wants to underline to these people, on saying goodbye. Elaine finishes with them:

  • Keep watch, be on guard. Put on the whole armour of God.

  • Leaders - be Shepherds of God's flock - the flock is God's, not yours. God chooses to use us, but He doesn't have to.

  • He commits the Ephesians to God and His grace. There is no safer pair of hands than God's hands. Grace is all about love. God's word is all about Jesus whose love paid the price of our rebellion and apathy. Paul reminds the Ephesian leaders that this world is not all there is. He challenges us to be people who love to give.
