The Movement of God: Let go to Hold On! (Acts 21: 1 - 15)
Beth Coppenhall preaches on Acts 21: 1 - 15.
She first talks about what it means to tear yourself away from someone or something. The text begins with:
“When we had torn ourselves away” Acts 21: 1
She challenges us to think of is a time in our lives in which we have had to tear ourselves away from someone or something?
She comments that there are times in life where we need to let go of some stuff in order to grow. Times where we have to let go of things in order to hold onto Jesus a little bit tighter.
She talks about her own life and how God asked her to let go of comfort and people's expectations, in order to follow Him.
She encourages people that are in a tricky situation that sometimes life is a bit uncomfortable and Jesus is still with us. She reminds us that Jesus is the goal, the prize and the one who truly satisfies us. Are we making Him out goal, or have we let the desire to please people or to seek a comfortable lifestyle get in the way?
Beth then talks about how Paul visited Philip's house in Acts 21 and a prophet called Agabus shows Paul how he will suffer in Jerusalem. Paul responds to this forth telling by saying that he is ready to die for Jesus and suffer.
She then challenges us: Are we ready for what God is about to do in us?
Will we let go of some our old ways, our comforts, our people pleasing?
She comments that she believes that God is saying He is going to breakthrough in many people's lives. Yet, she that she believes God wants us to get our hearts ready.
Beth believes we need to let go of:
Unforgiveness
Bitterness or offense
People pleasing
Our need for physical comfort
Our addictions
She summarises with 3 points:
Let go of things that God is asking you to let go of.
Be ready to be uncomfortable and go where He asks you.
Perceive what He is doing.
