Sunday school and sausage rolls!

Stella’s Story

My two sisters and I attended Ebeneezer Hall Sunday school and were all teachers there.  It was a natural progression from being a child attending Sunday school there to attending Toxteth Tabernacle.  We lived one street sway from Ebeneezer Hall and used to walk to the Tab on Sunday evening, rain, hail, snow or sunshine!
We three belonged to YPF and the leaders were Bill and Marion Bown (Irene and Neville Harding took over after them, until they later emigrated to America).  We met on Tuesday evening and sometimes had a speaker, sang choruses and had a prayer meeting.  We also had visiting speakers. We went on rambles usually on a bank holiday Monday.  After church on Sunday evening we used to have a ‘Squash’ .  We were invited by church members into their home and had a speaker, sang choruses, some gave their testimony for the first time which was a great idea for getting used to speaking to a group.  The evening ended with prayers and then refreshments and a chat.  We liked going to Mike Bews’ home because his mum made fantastic sausage rolls!
