Toxteth Vine Project
Elaine’s Story
I have been a trustee of the church charity, Toxteth Vine Project, for some years and currently serve as its Chair. The Toxteth Vine Project was set up to serve the local community. It is registered with the Charity Commission and has overseen three key projects across the years. The Tab Preschool ran from 1990 to 2018 and served hundreds of children and their families. Sadly it closed to due a lack of numbers and therefore finance to maintain it. The coffee shop, known as Stepping Stones, opened in the early 1990s and continued for 15 years until 2008. It provided the local community with a gathering place, a chance to eat reasonably priced food in a pleasant setting. Lots of volunteers as well as some paid staff ran the coffee shop over the years. Level 3, a Pupil Referral Unit, opened in 1996 and ran for 10 years. Funding this project, which catered for 14-16 year olds who had been excluded from school, was always a challenge. We saw many encouragements along the way and offered a number of young people the opportunity to have a second, third, umpteenth chance!
At the present time, Toxteth Vine Project is largely dormant, but the trustees are keen to seek God’s heart for serving the local community in the coming days.
