Real church: all about the people

Beth’s Story

“My husband and I were in our first year or so of marriage. It had been one crazy year! God had pruned us both - lots of tears, lots of illness, lots of change.

Then, one evening, our pastor called a meeting to tell us that the Sunday service we attended was going to end...In that moment I knew God was calling us elsewhere.

One Sunday, we decided to attend Toxteth Frontline, which was a 3pm service held at Toxteth Tabernacle Baptist church. As soon as we stepped through those doors, motorbike helmets in hand, we both felt a sense of calling.

We had prophetic* words (*words from God that give your insight and encouragement) given to us in that first meeting and, when I look back on it, it was a time of transition and a time of joy. We both felt that God had cared for us and protected us, after a difficult year prior.

Spring 2016, we began meeting with a small group of people from the 10.30am Toxteth Tabernacle Baptist church service.

We loved it.

There was something about those early meetings in the cold basement! 90-something year-old Lawrence, playing harmonica! Sharing with people of all ages and from varying backgrounds. It felt exciting.

This was real church: Being vulnerable with one another, sharing prayer requests, finding common ground in our love for Jesus. The Tab, for me, is all about the people. It's not polished - It is "flaws and all" kind of church! Come as you are, whoever you are, and be part of our family.

It is pioneering. It is a church after the heart of God. It is home.”
